I run Brilliant Barkers, I am a mum, teacher and a dog trainer and happily work with families to bring out the best in you and your dog.
We work with any size or breed of dog, whatever the struggle and strive to build trusting and respectful relationships.

Here is a video of us training a young puppy to stay 'close' and reduce pulling on the lead. Notice the puppy having fun and learning to choose the person over the distractions.

We use a mixture of teaching techniques depending on your preferred learning style, just like every dog, every person is different and we recognise this:
*We help you to learn by us:
* demonstrating first
* you listening to instructions and 'having a go'
* practising some techniques first
* looking at photos or a helpful guide
* writing notes and practising at another time
* reading our Whatsapp summary and watching the videos back after each lesson.
We often work at your home, out and about and anywhere you might need extra support e.g the car, cafe, parks, vets etc.
(This means we can even train your dog away from you and share the dog training at a time that is convenient for you.)

Providing a range of both private and group classes to fit your specific needs, we are equipped to help you achieve your goals. From impulse control and obedience to complex commands and tricks—no pet is untrainable.
Who are we?
We are a small family run business, I am Kirsty Chamberlain, I run and manage ‘Brilliant Barkers’, a caring and compassionate dog training business based in South Yorkshire. I am a mum and I am an experienced school teacher and dog trainer.
I have a really strong passion for animals and have always had a range of pets. We currently have two fun loving, cheeky miniature poodles!
I have had dogs from puppies and rescues and I always aim to see each dog as an individual with their own thoughts and feelings.
As a young girl, we had an aggressive border collie who was rehabilitated by a local dog trainer who used caring and considered methods to really understand our dog and help her to learn to live in our house safely and happily. My deeper understanding of her needs, pushed me to continue her training and train the new rescued puppy, who had been suggested to us, and who had been welcomed by our other dog and mothered by her from day one!
Fast forward quite a few years and I learned so much more about dogs, horses, cats and animals in general, as well as turning my compassion and caring towards children too. I became a school teacher and loved supporting and helping young people to learn and I love those moments when a child suddenly understands and can fly with their new knowledge! I take this joy of teaching into everything I do!
I am a mum to the most awesome daughter who now wants to be my colleague, watch this space…, and as a qualified dog trainer, I now meet so many amazing people and their brilliant dogs on a daily basis.
I have had the pleasure of working with so many different people and wide ranging breeds of dogs, sizes and temperaments and I hold at the core of my training, the dog’s welfare and the person’s needs.
Whatever the dog’s struggles and whatever the circumstances I know there is a better way! It is then up to us to come up with a plan that fits your lifestyle and your needs as well as helping your dog to truly fit in well and feel safe within the situation.
I endeavour to help and support you in a variety of ways to make the dog training about building on your dog’s natural instincts, to empower you to feel confident and capable and able to make the best decisions for you or your family. The training is positive and fun and the dog learns to make better choices in a supportive and caring way, sometimes a dog can feel misunderstood and confused , so I aim to help you plan and manage your dog’s life in a way that works for everyone.
People tell me that I have a calming quality that works on them and their dogs! I am someone who listens carefully to what you are saying and analyses each situation on an individual basis using my understanding of dogs and also people’s needs. The training is flexible and fluid, it is solution seeking and it can be done 1:1, with the whole family, remotely or online.
I am told that people feel safe and can relax with me and they know that I am non-judgemental and have a powerful passion to help them. I have been called a ‘Dog Whisperer’ on many occasions and to me this is something that I feel I have always had, dogs are so much more than ‘just a dog’ and I hope when you meet me you will be able to feel this belief emanating off me!
